Former WWE Superstar David Otunga believes that his old faction, The Nexus, should reunite for one final act of retribution against John Cena before the 17-time world champion retires at the end of this year. Speaking on “The F Y’all Podcast,” the former WWE Tag Team Champion reflected on the group’s dominant run in 2010 and the infamous main event of SummerSlam that year, which he feels permanently derailed the faction’s momentum. The Nexus, a group of rookies from the first season of NXT, took WWE by storm with their initial invasion, but their momentum was halted in a 7-on-7 elimination match against Team WWE, led by Cena at SummerSlam.A Controversial FinishOtunga still holds strong feelings about the outcome of that match, which saw John Cena emerge as the sole survivor, and he places the blame for the creative decision on one person. “We were the hottest thing running, and they knew that, and then it was so bad.The SummerSlam thing, that was a disaster. We should have won that. That completely cut the legs out from under us. Everybody agreed, but one person – John Cena.”With Cena now in the final months of his farewell tour, Otunga feels that there is one last piece of unfinished business that needs to be settled. He believes it would be a “travesty” if The Nexus didn’t get its long-awaited payback.More news: WWE Superstar Announces Retirement Match”Here’s Your Receipt””I think it’s a travesty if he retires without the Nexus coming back to whoop his ass. I think that’s what should happen,” Otunga said (H/T to WrestlingNews.co). “All of a sudden, who’s coming through the crowd? Who pops up on the ring? Boom, it’s payback. Here’s your receipt. Our receipt.”The Nexus storyline was one of the most exciting and memorable angles of its time. The group of eight rookies, led by Wade Barrett, created chaos on “Monday Night Raw” for months, attacking top stars and destroying the set.Their momentum was at an all-time high heading into SummerSlam, which is why the decision for them to lose to the established stars of Team WWE was so controversial and is still debated by fans to this day. A final confrontation with Cena during his retirement tour would be a fitting and nostalgic end to one of the biggest “what ifs” in modern WWE history.More WWE News:
