Three former Syndicate Members of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University have demanded Local Fund Audit Department probe into the alleged irregularities in the recruitment of teaching faculty members. Speaking to reporters here on Monday, former Syndicate members of MSU Professors M. Ananthakrishnan, T. Manoharan and C. Radhakrishnan said the MSU, after advertising for the recruitment of 54 teaching faculty members in 2016, recruited only 27 candidates and appointed them as Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors even though the selection process was conducted for 40 posts. The MSU did not initiate any selection process for recruiting faculty members for 14 posts citing the reason of lack of number of applications received. Of these 27 appointments, 22 candidates lacked prescribed qualifications. “As unqualified candidates were recruited and appointed that spoiled the quality of education in MSU, we, explaining the irregularities in the recruitment of teaching faculty, submitted complaints with then Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Department of Higher Education, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Wing and various other allied agencies seeking comprehensive probe into this scam. Even though the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Wing is probing and the Ministry of Higher Education, based on our complaints, directed the MSU in July 2024 to take action against the appointment of 5 faculty members, no action has been taken in this connection. We demand justice to the affected qualified candidates,” they said. The retired professors also sought comprehensive audit of MSU’s financial transactions and appointments by the State Government’s Local Fund Audit Department.
