Former Superstar Still Has an Itch to Make WWE Return

Danielle Moinet, widely known to WWE fans as Summer Rae, has candidly spoken about her constant desire to return to the company, even years after her initial departure. Moinet spent six years within the WWE system before her release in 2017. Despite moving on to other endeavors, the former WWE star’s passion for the wrestling business remains undiminished. Her love for the industry is so strong that she admitted to getting the “itch” for a return “all the time”. Moinet detailed her history with the promotion, which included a “good solid run” of six years. Even after leaving, she would make a memorable return to the company a few years ago for one of their most celebrated Premium Live Events. Moinet spoke about returning for the women’s Royal Rumble match, calling it a dream fulfilled. She stated, “They did not have an all women’s Royal Rumble when I was growing up and it was my dream”. This dream came to fruition when she made a special appearance in the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble match. This appearance occurred almost five years after her departure from the company. The physical and emotional toll of a full-time WWE schedule was part of Moinet’s experience, but she explained that when it is your passion, it doesn’t feel like a job. She reflected on the demanding schedule of being on the road for “a good 300 days a year,” calling it “completely nonstop”. However, she countered this by adding, “but when it’s what you’ve wanted to do, it doesn’t feel like work”. Moinet was a fixture in the WWE women’s division for several years in the 2010s. Her tenure also included a run on the reality series Total Divas and a stint managing the talented Fandango, where her in-ring persona was known to fans as Summer Rae. She maintains close relationships with her former colleagues, both male and female, and remains a dedicated member of the WWE fans. “I’m still very good friends with a lot of the girls and a lot of the guys in WWE and I still watch it avidly,” Moinet explained. She considers her time in professional wrestling to be an inseparable part of her life. “I’m such a big fan, and it’s just a part of me. It always will be,” Moinet affirmed. Her statement that she gets “the itch to go back all the time” fully encapsulates her continued love for the company and the profession. Following her full-time wrestling career, Moinet has been involved in media and entertainment, including taking on an on-air personality role for BYB Extreme Bareknuckle Boxing. Her recent Royal Rumble appearance in 2022 was her only televised match in WWE since her release, but the current landscape of the WWE women’s division is constantly evolving.
