Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kordell Stewart has hired an agent and is eyeing the open Colorado State head coach position, according to Josina Anderson. Colorado State has already fired former head coach Jay Norvell and has an active search ongoing. Stewart, who has ties to the state of Colorado after playing for the Colorado Buffaloes, seems like he wants to make the jump to college coaching. He hopped into high school coaching this year, taking on the job as voluntary offensive coordinator with South Forsyth High School in Cumming, Georgia. The news was reported by Forsyth Sports,in February and Stewart wanted to take on the challenge of being a coach. This was be the first time in his post-playing career that Stewart will coach at any level of football. “I thought this would be a great challenge,”Stewart told the outlet. “I want to use my experience as a player, like they are now, to now become a coach and take in all of those concepts and ideas.” Stewart was the Steelers’ longtime starting quarterback, though he started out as a versatile weapon, playing wide receiver and quarterback. That earned him the nickname ‘Slash.’ Stewart played with the Steelers from 1995 to 2002 and had stints with the Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens. Before the Steelers drafted him in the second round of the 1995 NFL Draft, Stewart became a legend at the University of Colorado. He finished his career with over 14,000 passing yards and 2,000 rushing yards, with 38 rushing touchdowns and 88 more touchdowns through the air.
