Former SNP councillor mounts comeback bid in Ayr North by-election

One of South Ayrshire’s most experienced former councillors is aiming to return to the chamber. Former SNP member Ian Douglas is mounting a comeback bid after officially announcing his candidacy for the upcoming Ayr North by-election. The vote has been called following the death of former SNP turned Independent councillor Mark Dixon in July. Mr Douglas, who was a councillor in Ayr East from 2007 to 2017, says he brings a message of “teamwork, community-focused progress, and a commitment to ensuring every voice in Ayr North is heard and respected.” Mr Douglas has also been a member of his local community council and the council’s education appeals panel and says he has “proven experience of standing up for working families, small businesses, and public services.” This, he says, will enable him to be an effective douncillor for North Ayr. Mr Douglas said: “I’m running because I believe Ayr North deserves a representative who listens, who shows up, and who delivers. “This by-election is an opportunity to choose real leadership someone who will fight for better housing, safer streets, and investment in our schools and local services. “This isn’t about politics as usual. It’s about delivering real results for real people. I’m ready to work and to listen every single day.” Douglas says his priorities include: Prior to becoming a councillor he served his time as an electrician before switching to computing. He programmed and looked after the mainframe computer which was in Ayr Town Hall where the entrance hall is now. He lives near Belmont School with his wife Elaine. The Ayr North By-Election will be held October 16.
