Former Seahawks QB Predicted To Land With Surprise AFC Team

The Seattle Seahawks will be pleased with their recent quarterback investment; bringing in Sam Darnold this past free agency period after trading the older and more interception prone, Geno Smith, to the Raiders for a third rounder.
However, not all teams are as lucky as they are, and in fact some could be looking to bring in Seahawks legend and Super Bowl-winner, Russell Wilson, to help alleviate some quarterback woes.
And in light of Giants rookie, Jaxson Dart, playing as well as he did in his first start against the Los Angeles Chargers, winning 21-18, there may be very limited time left in New York for the former All-Pro.
Russell Wilson Predicted To Be Trade To Unexpected AFC Team
The usual suspects – like the Cincinnati Bengals – are obvious targets. But one team whose name has seldom been mentioned is none other than the AFC South bottom-feeders, the Tennessee Titans.
This is definitely not a super clear trade to make in the eyes of most observers, but Jaren Kawada of ClutchPoints believes it could have more hidden sense than immediately meets the eye.
Kawada’s primary reason for making a move for Wilson is due to the injury risk posed by Ward early on in his Titans career.
“Cam Ward might be struggling to find a rhythm early on, but that was to be expected for a rookie in this difficult situation.” Kawada wrote on Thursday. “Tennessee’s biggest concern with Ward should be his availability. Just three games into his career, Ward is already banged up.”
Russell Wilson May Be Needed If Cam Ward Takes Too Much Damage
And Kawada believes that there is one clear reason why is in the “banged up” position that he’s in just four games in – the amount of hits he has taken in the pocket behind his offensive line.
“The development should come as no surprise. It has not even been a month, and Ward has already taken an NFL-high 15 sacks. He has faced 34 pressures through three games, according to FOX Sports, the fourth-most in the league.”
If Ward is not able to play, Kawada argues, then it makes far more sense to go with Wilson, who is at the very least a proven, long-time starter in the league, than the Titans’ current best alternative option, Brendan Allen.
“If the Titans shut him down at any point, Brandon Allen is the only other quarterback on the roster. Ward would undoubtedly benefit from sharing a locker room with a veteran like Russell Wilson. The Titans might not want to fulfill Wilson’s salary, but they would be much more confident deploying him if necessary than they would be in Allen.”
Wilson certainly has experience being elusive and making plays outside the pocket, however, he is not the nimble athlete he once was back in his hay-day, so he too could fall victim to the in-pocket issues facing Ward.
Moreover, given the team’s 0-4 start and various deficiencies on the roster, it does not seem like they are in any spot to seriously compete, regardless of who is at quarterback – Ward or Wilson.
So, making a trade for another QB might not be the most obvious thing to do. But, if head coach, Brian Callahan is set on making a serious go of the season and not remotely tanking, it could end up being a smart more for purely insurance purposes.
