From gliding down the pageant ramp to stepping onto the silver screen, Vartika Singh is all set to make her Bollywood debut! The former Miss Universe India and supermodel joins the star-studded cast of Haq, produced by Junglee Pictures in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios. She will share screen space with Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam in this highly anticipated courtroom drama, hitting theatres on November 7, 2025. The film is based on Jigna Vora’s book, Bano: Bharat ki Beti. Vartika Singh will play a complex, emotionally exacting character whose unpredictability forms a key part of the film’s narrative. In preparation for her role, Vartika underwent extensive training, working with dialect coaches and participating in improvisation-based workshops to fully understand her character’s silences and emotional depth. It tells the story of a young woman who stands up for her rights, challenging societal norms and sparking a nationwide conversation on faith, women’s rights, and justice. A month ago, Junglee Pictures released the official teaser for Haq on YouTube. The production company described the plot: “Shazia Bano takes her husband Abbas to court after he abandons her and their children, sparking a national battle over faith, women’s rights, and justice. Inspired by the landmark Supreme Court judgement of Mohd. Ahmed Khan vs. Shah Bano Begum. Haq is the story of one woman’s fight for her rights and justice.” About Vartika Singh Vartika Brij Nath Singh, born on 27 August 1993, is an Indian model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Universe India 2019 and represented the country at the 68th Miss Universe pageant. Prior to this, she won the Femina Miss India Grand International title in 2015. In 2017, GQ magazine listed her among the hottest women in India. Singh completed her schooling at Canossa Convent School in Lucknow before earning a bachelor’s degree in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics from Isabella Thoburn College. She later pursued a master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Lucknow. Her modelling career gained attention in 2016 when her interview and photoshoot were featured in the January edition of GQ India, which also recognized her as one of the country’s hottest women that year. In 2017, she participated in the Kingfisher Model Hunt contest and appeared in the Kingfisher bikini calendar for the months of March and October. Beyond modelling, Singh has been actively involved in social causes. In 2018, she founded the non-profit organisation ‘Pure Humans’ to raise awareness about public health issues across India. She has collaborated with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to educate communities about tuberculosis and has served as a Goodwill Ambassador for Smile Train India, supporting children born with cleft lip and cleft palate. On 26 September 2019, Vartika was appointed Miss Universe India 2019 in the absence of a Miss Diva pageant that year. She went on to compete at the Miss Universe 2019 pageant in Atlanta, Georgia, on 8 December 2019, and secured a spot in the Top 20, ending India’s consecutive unplacement streak at the international competition. In addition to her pageantry and modeling work, Vartika has appeared in music videos, including “Kishmish” (2019) by Ash King and Qaran, and “Saware” (2017) by Anupam Raag and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.
