Former LSU Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron reportedly wants the coaching gig at Oregon State, as the school has an opening and could use a leader to take them in a new direction. Orgeron won a National Title with LSU, though the team eventually moved on to Brian Kelly, who was recently fired during his fourth season at the helm. He told On3 Sports recently that he does want to coach again, taking on any role needed if it means being in a competitive program. “I’m not gonna take anything, and not everybody’s gonna take me. So, it may be a head coach job. It may be a defensive line job with someone that I believe can win a championship….I’m a championship coach and I’m gonna bring a winning program to their university,” he said. According to LSU insider Matt Moscona, Orgeron “wants that job. He is well-travelled, having coached at Ole Miss early in his career before taking an interim head coaching job at USC. In between his time as a head coach, Orgeron has moonlighted as a defensive line coach. A return to LSU is unlikely for Orgeron, who is looking for a new direction. There are still high-profile openings at Florida, Penn State, and UCLA, all of which may involve the coach’s name. “All depends what the best thing available is,” Orgeron said earlier this month. “But I’m ready to coach again. I left a little bit of meat on the bone. I’m ready to go.” Realistically, he will need to rebuild his reputation at a smaller program, and the Beavers could present the perfect chance to establish himself as a team-builder during the modern transfer-heavy, NIL-focused era.
