Former Lord Mayor appointed as new CEO of SOS Bus

Former Lord Mayor of Belfast, Micky Murray, has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of SOS NI, taking over from outgoing interim CEO Veronica Morris, who was appointed in March 2024. Micky , who has been a volunteer and Deputy Team Leader with the charity, will formally take up the role on 6th October 2025. In a statement on Monday, the charity said that he has been a passionate advocate for inclusion, safety, and person-centred care, which they describe as “values that lie at the heart of SOS NI’s mission.” SOS NI provides welfare support and crisis response services across Belfast and beyond, through trained volunteer teams offering frontline support in the night-time economy, at public events, and to individuals facing homelessness, addiction, or emotional distress. Micky Murray’s appointment comes at a critical time for the organisation as it continues to scale its work, develop partnerships with statutory services, and expand its welfare outreach across Belfast. Commenting on his new role, Micky said: “SOS NI has always held a special place in my heart. I’ve seen first-hand the difference it makes to people in crisis, and I’m honoured to now lead the organisation into its next phase. My focus will be on championing our volunteers, strengthening our partnerships, and ensuring our services remain accessible, trusted, and responsive to the needs of our communities.” Mags Dunne, Chair of the Board of Trustees, added: “We are delighted to welcome Micky into this vital leadership role. His community roots, strategic insight, and genuine passion for our mission make him the ideal person to lead SOS NI into its next chapter. “On behalf of the Board, staff, and volunteers, we also extend our heartfelt thanks to Veronica Morris for her outstanding leadership over the past 18 months. Her steady hand, strategic and operational expertise, and commitment during a challenging period have been instrumental in stabilising and re-positioning the charity for long-term sustainability.” For all the latest news, visit the Belfast Live homepage here and sign up to our politics newsletter here.
