A pair of former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions are officially set to compete inside a WWE ring for the first time in five years. The IInspiration, Cassie Lee and Billie Kay, will be part of the upcoming NXT Showdown special.
The duo, who are currently signed to TNA, were known as The IIconics during their time in WWE. Their return is part of the ongoing crossover storyline between the two promotions.

This interpromotional angle will culminate in the “NXT Showdown” event on October 7. The name was recently changed from “Invasion” after some viewers expressed concerns. The most recent episode of NXT finalized several matches for the historic card.
One of the announced bouts is a massive 10-woman Survivor Series-style elimination tag team match. In a surprising move, NXT’s Kelani Jordan, who is also the reigning TNA Knockouts World Champion, was named the captain for Team TNA.
While assembling her team, Jordan announced that she was selecting The IInspiration to join her, along with Mara Sade. This marks the first time Cassie Lee and Billie Kay will wrestle for WWE since their final match as The IIconics in August 2020.
The IIconics were a popular team in WWE, known for their entertaining personalities. Their career peaked at WrestleMania 35, where they won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship in a Fatal Four-Way match. They were forced to disband in 2020 and were released from the company in 2021.

The opposing team will be captained by NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne. Jayne has selected Jaida Parker, Lola Vice, and current NXT Women’s North American and Speed Champion Sol Ruca to round out her team. The episode ended with a large brawl between the women of both brands to build anticipation for the event.
The 10-woman elimination tag team match is just one highlight of the stacked NXT Showdown card. Other major interpromotional bouts include TNA’s Mustafa Ali challenging Ethan Page for the NXT North American Championship and Trick Williams defending the TNA World Championship against NXT’s Carmelo Hayes.
