The Food Vendors Registration Council of Nigeria has successfully trained over 500 of it’s Staff Officers, to properly equip and prepare them to ensure compliance on the best standard practices of Food Safety and Hygiene in the country.
The National Coordinator of the Council, Amb. Dr. Jonah Nicholas Karimu, during the closing ceremony and passing out parade of the newly trained officers, said after going through the professional training exercise, a great responsibility is now on them to be good ambassadors of the council.
Amb. Dr. Karimu also tasked the officers to avoid acts against the ethics and code of conduct in order to achieve the effective implementation of the laudable project for the benefits of all Nigerians.
He urged all interested youths in Nigeria especially those into science related and administrative courses to join the moving train as a new recruitment exercise will be launched immediately after the professional training to build the staff strength for the great task ahead.
However, the National Coordinator called on Mr. President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to kindly assent to this important bill in order to put Nigeria among the committee of Nations exploring the avenue to safeguard the health of their citizens.
Besides, he, listed some benefits if the bill is finally signed into Law by Mr. President, to be the development of a central data base for Food Vendors in Nigeria for proper and strategic development planning.
Improved traceability of Food Vendors in Nigeria through a result based and coordinated Registration, Training and Issuance of digital Identification numbers to each Food Vendor.
It will create job Opportunities for the teaming youths in Nigeria through direct and indirect engagement with the council as staff officers and whistle blowers respectively an other strategic engagement.
A good source of Revenue generation to the government through already mapped out activities for that purpose among others he listed.
He added that continuous professional training is required to properly equip and prepare officers for effective implementation of food safety and hygiene across the country with a view to reducing the high rate of food borne diseases.
Some of the participating staff said the training will enhance food security by raising the orientation and awareness on safe and proper storage and preservation methods of raw foods to discourage the high post-harvest losses. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
