Food truck proposal for beauty spot Eryri lake where BBQs normally rule

A beauty spot lake well known for watersports and walking could get a food truck. Llyn Geirionydd lies in the Gwydir Forest around three miles from the Conwy Valley village of Trefriw. It has become increasingly popular in recent years as more and more visitors have discovered the location - making it a challenge to navigate the narrow lanes to the lake. The site has traditionally seen visitors bring their own food for a lakeside picnic or often a barbecue. But there are now proposals to bring in a food and drink truck. It's all part of a Natural Resources Wales plan to look into allowing vendors to provide mobile catering on its land. NRW has been assessing 12 sites across the country for the potential to host food and drink trailers. This recently included Moel Famau in north east Wales. The application said: "Natural Resources Wales' (NRW) are proposing to locate one mobile food/drink van in the car park near Llyn Geirionydd. "The site is currently used for car parking and therefore this is a change of use application to allow the organisation to mobilise a food/drink van on the site. "No new hardstandings or permanent structures will be created. The van/trailer will not be located on the grass or any other vegetation, in order to minimise disturbance to the surrounding green infrastructure. "The van/trailer will not be permitted to park overnight, we anticipate seasonal opening hours of 9am to 5pm. "NRW will be offering the opportunity to the open market, and would hope to award to a local business wherever possible. There will not be an electricity supply and no diesel or external generators will be permitted. We are trying to encourage eco solutions." Earlier this year, Elsie Grace, Head of Sustainable Commercial Development, Natural Resources Wales said: "We often receive requests from businesses wanting to set up food and drink vans on the land we manage. To respond to this interest, our commercial team has worked with our land management teams to review suitable locations for these concession contracts. “We’ve considered a range of factors, including visitor numbers, how an onsite presence could help tackle anti-social behaviour, potential congestion issues, and commercial viability."
