4Warn Weather – Over the next few days, Metro Detroit will have ideal conditions for high school football, NFL tailgating, and any outdoor activities.
Isolated evening showers will give way to mainly clear skies on Thursday night, but patchy fog will begin to develop overnight.
Temperatures will be in the lower 50s near Howell and Lapeer, and in the mid-50s in Royal Oak, Roseville, Allen Park, and Monroe.
Fog to sunshine
Expect patchy fog to linger through the predawn hours and into early morning, especially in low-lying zones and near rivers.
Visibility may be reduced during the commute, particularly before 9 a.m. Drivers are urged to use low-beam headlights, slow their speed, and allow extra time for travel until the fog thins.
By late morning, warming and mixing in the atmosphere should erase most of the fog.
Friday afternoons will be characterized by mostly sunny skies, with highs in the mid-to-upper 70s.
High school football weather
Friday’s Local 4 Game of the Week features Rochester Adams against Clarkston, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
Conditions are expected to generally cooperate. Skies will be clear, and the evening is expected to remain dry with mild temperatures around 70 degrees.
The weather will be ideal for players and fans. Be sure to keep a light jacket for the cooler air that sets in after sunset.
This Weekend
The dry, mostly sunny pattern holds into Saturday and Sunday.
Highs will approach 80 degrees, and overnight lows will dip into the 50s.
Lions tailgating
Sunday’s Detroit Lions home game against the Cleveland Browns at 1 p.m. looks to enjoy nearly perfect weather for tailgaters.
Leading up to the game, expect temperatures in the lower to mid-70s. Highs will be around 80 degrees.
With these conditions, parking lots and tailgate zones should be comfortable—just sunny and dry.
Early next week will remain mostly mild and dry.
UV levels will climb quickly during peak sun hours.
Anyone planning to be outdoors for extended periods—whether tailgating, walking between venues, or working outside—should apply broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+), wear sunglasses and a hat, and dress in breathable, light layers.
Hydration is key as midday rays intensify.
It is a good idea to pace outdoor activities. The late morning through early afternoon window will be the best.
Early next week will remain mostly mild and dry, but temperatures will become fall-like and return to normal by late week.
Tropical Storm Humberto
Tropical Storm Humberto, the eighth named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, formed on Wednesday and is steadily gaining strength in the open Atlantic.
As of Thursday afternoon, Humberto was positioned about 470 miles northeast of the northern Leeward Islands.
The storm had maximum sustained winds of nearly 60 mph while drifting northwest at approximately 6 mph.
Humberto is expected to become a hurricane over the weekend and possibly reach major hurricane intensity as it tracks across the central Atlantic.
Current guidance keeps the storm just east of the U.S. mainland, though it will likely pass between Bermuda and the Eastern Seaboard.
Even without a direct landfall, Humberto is likely to generate hazardous surf, rip currents, and a risk of coastal flooding along parts of the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic coastlines in the coming days.
The National Hurricane Center is also monitoring a tropical disturbance, Invest 94L, developing in the Caribbean.
If it organizes into Tropical Storm Imelda, it could interact with Humberto in a rare phenomenon called the Fujiwhara effect, where two storms draw closer and begin rotating around one another—potentially altering their expected tracks.
The National Hurricane Center continues to advise coastal communities to monitor forecasts closely, as Humberto’s impacts could extend well beyond the storm’s center.
