In an age when influencers and content creators are often chasing the next big viral moment, actor and entrepreneur Kunal Kapoor emphasised the need to focus on value and not virality. “Do not replace value with virality,” said Kapoor, Co-founder of crowd-sourcing platform Ketto, during a fireside chat with Shradha Sharma, YourStory’s Founder and CEO, at TechSparks 2025, Bengaluru. The conversation also dwelled on how content, a few years ago, could be produced only by a handful of people, mostly people in show business. But today anybody with a mobile phone and an idea can bring any story to life. Therefore, it is important to tell a story that adds value, he said. Kapoor spoke about how one can build an authentic narrative that builds trust, attracts capital, and creates loyal commitments. He also urged founders and creators to tell stories that are personal, specific, and purpose-driven. The actor co-founded Ketto in 2012 as a crowd-sourcing platform for social causes. He explained how the firm uses content to bridge the gap between people who want to help and those who need help. He also shared a social experiment he did to understand how social media caters to individuals. When he tried to recall what he learnt from scrolling on X for a month, he realised it was very little. "Because you are just constantly scrolling. It made me realise that if I spend a few minutes reading a book or educating myself, it might be more powerful," he said. (Edited by Swetha Kannan)
