FM Nirmala Sitharaman to inaugurate Kautilya Economic Conclave on October 3

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will on October 3 inaugurate an economic conclave in Delhi that will see 75 key policy makers, economists and other sector experts from 30 countries brainstorm over the road ahead for India and the world in these turbulent times.The theme of the three-day Kautilya Economic Conclave will be ‘Seeking Prosperity in Turbulent Times’.The theme is “relevant both in the context of India’s growth aspirations and its success in navigating times of exceptional uncertainty, turbulence and changing geopolitics”, the finance ministry said in a statement on Saturday.This is the fourth edition of the annual conclave.The agenda brings together topics on immediate policy priorities and long-term shifts, with sessions focusing on Asia’s emergence as a global growth hub, the evolving architecture of the Brics grouping, financial stability and new directions in industrial policy.Live EventsThe conclave will culminate in a high-level plenary on global macroeconomic prudence, chaired by PK Mishra, principal secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where senior policymakers and economists will evaluate the health of the world economy and the reforms required in financial governance.Communications minister Jyotiraditya Scindia will address a session on ‘Communications: Emerging Technologies’, with leading experts on artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure in attendance.Larry Kramer, president and vice-chancellor of London School of Economics and former solicitor general of India Harish Salve will deliberate on how reforms in the legal framework can underpin growth and bolster the rule of law. This session will be chaired by Shaktikanta Das, principal secretary-II to the prime minister.Other panels will deliberate on universal healthcare, youth employment, urbanisation, trade and regional integration, and the risks and rewards of emerging technologies, the finance ministry said.External affairs minister S Jaishankar will address the valedictory session on October 5, reflecting on India’s foreign and economic policies.The Kautilya Economic Conclave was initiated by the Institute of Economic Growth, under the presidentship of NK Singh, in partnership with the finance ministry in 2022.
