Flyover inaugurated on NH-50 between Hosalli and Hitnal

A new flyover on National Highway 50 between Hosalli and Hitnal in Koppal taluk was inaugurated on Friday, with officials and elected representatives stressing that the project would significantly reduce accidents on the busy stretch.

Speaking after the inauguration, K. Rajashekhar Basavaraj Hitnal, Lok Sabha Member from Koppal, said that efforts were on to bring down road accidents to “near zero” by constructing flyovers at unsafe junctions and installing CCTV cameras in accident-prone zones.

“Around 190 accidents occur every year on this 15 km stretch of NH-50 and 63, claiming nearly 50 to 60 lives. To address this, the previous Lok Sabha Member from Koppal Karadi Sanganna had secured ₹120 crore for building flyovers at Ningapur, Hosalli, Shahapur, Methgal, and Hitnal. These projects are being completed one after another,” he said.

The new flyover, built at a cost of ₹19.43 crore by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), is now open to public use. Lighting facilities will be added soon, Mr. Hitnal said. He also noted that CCTV cameras had been installed, and speed limits of 60 kmph for heavy vehicles and 70 kmph for cars and buses would be enforced with new technology that automatically fines speeding vehicles.

Koppal MLA K. Raghavendra Hitnal expressed satisfaction that the long-pending project had been completed quickly, providing safer movement for vehicles. He said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will visit Koppal on October 6 to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for development works worth over ₹1,500 crore, urging citizens to attend in large numbers.

Former Lok Sabha Member from Koppal Karadi Sanganna, recalling his role in securing approval for the project, congratulated the present Lok Sabha Member from the constituency and contractors for its speedy completion. He also pressed for bypass works in Kukanoor, Yelburga, Maski, and Sindhanur, construction of an airport in Koppal, and prioritisation of railway projects such as the Daroji–Gangavati and Gangavati–Bagalkot lines.

Local elected representatives, officials and community leaders, including Hosalli gram panchayat president Suresh, Koppal CMC president Amjad Patel and contractor Sharanbasavaraj Alur, were present..
