Mike Tyson looks set to find himself out in the cold after the planned date for a rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao was revealed. It emerged on Monday evening that negotiations were underway for a second meeting between two of the greatest fighters in boxing history. Netflix are said to be keen to broadcast Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2, following on from the success of both Tyson vs Jake Paul and Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford over the past 12 months. The pair's first meeting in May 2015, was a huge success commercially, generating a record for pay-per-view buys that is almost certain to never be beaten. Purchased by 4.6 million boxing fans, Mayweather defeated 'Pac-Man' by unanimous decision in a fight that failed to come anywhere close to the hype surrounding it. Nevertheless, both Netflix and both fighters' camps seem determined to push forward with the rematch. According to sources close to the situation, an April 2026 date is in the works for the bout, with the Las Vegas Sphere rumoured to be the venue. Mike Tyson Set to Lose Out on Millions Due to Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2 That timeline would seem to completely scupper a planned contest between Mayweather and heavyweight legend, Tyson. Despite the fact that the duo are separated by more than 80 lbs, a spring 2026 exhibition contest pitting the pair against each other was announced by promoters back in September. At the time, organisers CSI Sport/Fight Sport vowed: "Tyson vs Mayweather will break every broadcast, streaming and economic record set by Mike Tyson [vs Paul] in 2024." Crucially, though, they failed to reveal any further details, including a proposed location, aside from stating that the contest would consist of eight two-minute rounds. The absence of any more information on Mayweather vs Tyson, together with the flurry of reports relating to the Pacquiao rematch, would seem to indicate that 'Iron Mike' has been pushed out of the picture. Naturally, that fight could be rescheduled for a later date, but the lack of any announcements isn't a good sign for the bout's future. Tyson, who reportedly made in excess of $20 million for his fight with Paul, would no doubt have been in line for another massive payday for facing Mayweather. He now looks set to miss out on that hefty boost to his bank balance, although many have questioned if it is safe for the 59-year-old to be fighting even in an exhibition setting. While there has been radio silence on Mayweather vs Tyson, Pacquiao has had plenty to set about a potential rematch with Floyd. The Filipino superstar has always claimed that his activity in the 2015 mega-fight was thwarted by a torn rotator cuff. Pacquiao recently confirmed discussions are taking place for a rematch: "There is talk, I'm happy to start discussing a potential rematch with Floyd." Pacquiao, 46, returned to professional action in July for the first time in four years, where an impressive showing saw him fight to a draw against the current WBC welterweight champion, Mario Barrios, in a fight that many feel he deserved to win. He added: "I've been motivated since after the fight. Right now, God is good and is giving me the strength and good health to continue my career as a boxer." Mayweather, 48, on the other hand, has not stepped into the squared circle in a professional setting since his blockbuster clash against UFC legend Conor McGregor in August 2017. Pacquiao insisted on a real contest, and strongly claimed Mayweather had even peculiarly been missing a few phone calls over the years back in July when speaking on the Ariel Helwani show. "He has been ducking me. I don't want an exhibition, I want a real fight. It's been a long time I have wanted to give the fans a good fight between me and him." It seems Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2 will go ahead next spring. If Pacquiao gets his wish, it will also be a fully-sanctioned professional contest.
