Florida’s favorite store is opening six more locations across five states this month

Publix opened the first of six new stores on Saturday in Tennessee, bringing total stores to over 1,400.
The chain plans to launch the remaining five stores across four states. The next two openings will be in Georgia and South Carolina on Wednesday.
The last three stores will open in North Carolina and Florida — the first in Charlotte on September 20 and the next two in Coral Gables and Orlando on September 25.
These six stores push Publix’s total openings this month to nine, with more planned by the end of the year.
Publix initially confirmed the new store openings earlier this summer — including an expansion into Kentucky for the first time and replacement stores in Florida.
‘We look forward to welcoming both longtime and new customers and associates to their new Publix stores,’ media relations manager Nicole Krauss said at the time.
The grocer has opened more than 30 stores so far in 2025 and recently ranked third on Fortune’s Best Workplaces in Retail for the 12th consecutive year.
Other supermarket chains are also expanding. Trader Joe’s plans to open 30 stores by the end of the year.

Aldi — the nation’s fastest-growing grocery chain — will open 225 new stores this year alone, on top of the 105 it opened last year.
Saturday’s Publix opening in Spring Hill this week saw the first 95 visitors get a free reusable bags.
Publix confirmed to Daily Mail that it’s planning to open several more stores by the end of the year. The company declined to reveal those dates and locations.
While Publix is expanding, Kroger is shuttering underperforming stores under its Kroger, Harris Teeter, and Pick ‘n Save banners, targeting one of the largest closure rounds in company history by the end of 2026.
Nearly 1,000 employees were laid off, though Kroger intends to reinvest savings into improving customer experience.
Kroger initiated the closurest to cut costs following its failed $25 billion merger with Albertsons.
Despite the closures, Kroger is planning to open around 30 new stores by the end of 2025,.
