Florida Blue Members May No Longer Be Covered at Cleveland Clinic Locations

Florida Blue members may no longer be covered at one of the country's biggest health systems. Cleveland Clinic is in contract negotiations with state insurer Florida Blue. If no agreement is reached, millions of Florida Blue members will be out of network at several Cleveland Clinic locations across the state. Why It Matters This comes as the annual open enrollment period begins. From November 1, 2025, to January 15, 2026, people can sign up for health insurance, cancel or change their health insurance plan. This includes employer-based insurance, Medicare or insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace. What To Know Florida Blue is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association that serves more than five million members in all 67 Florida counties. In a statement on its website, Florida Blue said it understands these discussions may cause "concern and uncertainty" for members, especially in Broward County. According to Cleveland Clinic, contract negotiations with Florida Blue are ongoing. If no agreement is reached, Cleveland Clinic will be out of network for Florida Blue members as early as March 1, 2026. This will impact individuals in Florida with insurance plans through work, the ACA marketplace and Medicare Advantage. Cleveland Clinic has over 50 locations in Florida, including hospitals, outpatient and urgent care clinics and specialty care facilities. This includes Weston Hospital in Broward County, Indian River Hospital in Vero Beach, Tradition Hospital in St. Lucie County and two hospitals in Martin County. “We’re working hard to reach a new agreement because our goal is simple: to come to a resolution with Florida Blue in order to avoid any changes that would disrupt your coverage,” Cleveland Clinic said in a statement. “We remain committed to delivering the highest-quality care at an affordable cost — and we hope that Florida Blue joins us in that commitment.” Earlier this year, Florida Blue went out of network for two other health systems. In July, the insurer announced it was no longer in-network at Broward Hospital. Florida Blue said the hospital was “unresponsive for weeks.” Starting September 1, Florida Blue became out of network at Memorial Healthcare System after the insurer said the health system “continues to demand unreasonable rates that will drive up the cost of health care for many in Broward County.” In both cases, Florida Blue said it hopes these coverage disruptions are temporary and that it can return to the negotiation table. What Happens Next Cleveland Clinic advised patients to keep their current appointments. If no agreement is reached, appointments or care scheduled on or after March 1, 2026, may be affected. Patients should also explore continuity of care benefits with Florida Blue. Newsweek reached out to Florida Blue and Cleveland Clinic for comment.
