The Calgary Flames are a very interesting team to watch heading into the 2025-26 season. The Pacific Division club will be looking to take that next step after just missing the playoffs during the 2024-25 season. When noting that they have solid veterans and promising young players, the possibility of them doing so should not be ruled out.
However, at the same time, the Flames also had a very quiet offseason in free agency. The Flames only brought in two players in free agency, as they signed goaltender Ivan Provestov and defenseman Nick Cicek. Provestov spent last season in the KHL and will be looking to earn the Flames’ backup spot. Cicek, on the other hand, is a depth defender who is likely to start the season in the AHL.
It is never a bad thing for a team to add to its depth. Yet, when looking at the Flames’ roster, it is clear that they could use another skilled top-six forward. According to PuckPedia, the Flames have just under $12 million of cap space. With this, they are in a position to make a real splash and should take advantage of it.
When looking at trade candidates around the NHL, Boston Bruins forward Pavel Zacha stands out big time. The 28-year-old is coming off another solid season with the Bruins, posting 14 goals and 47 points in 82 games. This was after he had 59 points in 2023-24 and 57 points in 2022-23. With this, Zacha could give the Flames’ offense a nice boost if acquired.
Because of this, we here at Heavy Sports have a trade proposal that has the Bruins trading Zacha to the Flames in a big swap.
Flames Get:
Pavel Zacha
Bruins Get:
2026 First-Round Pick (From Vegas Golden Knights)
Henry Mews
Flames Have Been Linked to Pavel Zacha
Zacha has been the subject of trade speculation for quite some time now. With the Bruins out of the playoff race at the 2025 NHL trade deadline, Zacha was one of the players who generated interest. While he ended up staying put, trade rumors surrounding Zacha have only continued since the start of the offseason.
In a recent article for RG, James Murphy reported that a source told him that the Flames and Montreal Canadiens are two teams that have expressed interest in Zacha.
“The Canadiens definitely have interest in Zacha and have inquired about him, but they’re not the only team,” Murphy’s source said. “Several teams — I’m told the Flames are one — continue to express interest in him.”
With the Flames needing help at center, it is understandable that they are interested in Zacha. This is especially so when noting that he is right in his prime and signed until the end of the 2026-27 with a $4.75 million cap hit.
Why Flames Could Land Zacha With This Trade Offer
With Zacha being one of the Bruins’ top forwards and having a good contract, a first-round pick would likely need to be the starting point in any deal. The Flames could send the 2026 first-round pick they received from Vegas to Boston for Zacha.
With Mews, the Bruins would be landing a promising prospect defenseman. The 19-year-old just had a strong season in the OHL, recording 14 goals and 82 points in 68 games. With the Bruins needing help on the right side of their defense, Mews certainly could grab their attention.
