In an email sent to Summers on Dec. 22, 2018, Epstein joked about the mental health of Trump and Dershowitz, the famed former Harvard Law professor who was on Trump’s defense team during his first impeachment trial and who also had a role on Epstein’s legal team in Florida. “trump — borderline insane. dersh, a few feet further from the border but not by much," Epstein wrote. Giuffre also accused Dershowitz of multiple incidents of sexual abuse when she was underage. Dershowitz has vehemently denied those allegations, claiming he never met her. After Dershowitz filed a defamation lawsuit against Giuffre’s lawyers, she eventually withdrew her claim against him. In an email Epstein sent to his girlfriend and confidante, Ghislaine Maxwell, on April 2, 2011, he wrote: “I want you to realize that the dog that hasn’t barked is Trump ... Virginia spent hours at my house with him.” “Virginia” seemingly refers to Virginia Giuffre, who accused Epstein of arranging sexual encounters between her and many of his rich and powerful friends when she was a teen, including Britain’s now former Prince Andrew. Giuffre died by suicide last spring. Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison sentence for grooming young girls for Epstein to sexually exploit. In a 2019 email to a journalist, Epstein wrote that Trump “knew about the girls.” What Trump knew specifically, and whether it had to do with Epstein’s sex crimes, is unclear. The White House immediately slammed Democrats for selecting the emails to smear the president. Several emails exchanged between Epstein and Summers over years showed a relationship marked by phone calls and visits. In a message sent in November 2016, eight years after Epstein had pleaded guilty to state charges in Florida for soliciting minors for prostitution, Epstein discussed arranging a meeting between Summers and the son of a Senegalese leader. In the same message chain, Summers, asks Epstein not to make arrangements for him to meet with Trump, who had been elected president for the first time a few weeks earlier. “Spend zero effort on anything about me with trump,” Summers wrote. “Seeing his approach to conflict of interest, his Putin proximity, and his mindless response on Castro death I’m best off a million miles away.” A spokesperson for Summers declined to comment on the newly released emails. “Summers has made clear previously he deeply regrets his association with Epstein,” the spokesperson said. Wednesday’s swearing in of Representative-elect Adelita Grijalva, Democrat of Arizona, will likely trigger the government’s release of more Epstein files. Grijalva’s swearing in had been delayed for two months while the House was out of session. Moments after being sworn in, she added her name to a petition that will force the release of more Epstein files. Representative Ro Khanna of California, the House Democrat who has been most vocal in her push for the release of the documents, said the signature “means by early December, we’re going to get a full vote on the Epstein files.” Democrats have speculated that Speaker Mike Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, kept the House out of session for so long to delay Grijalva’s swearing in and, in turn, a vote on the Epstein files.
