Five arrested in Kurnool for transporting ganja

Five persons were arrested for transporting ganja illegally from Andhra Odisha Border to Kurnool city. The accused had stashed the ganja into small packets and put them in the doors of the car to conceal them from police.

Kurnool Deputy Superintendent of Police J. Babu Prasad on Monday (September 15) said they had taken up vehicle checking at the Bellary Chowrasta on credible information about transportation of ganja on Sunday evening. Police stopped a car bearing on suspicion and questioned the five occupants but could not find anything in it.

When they searched the car thoroughly, they stumbled upon ganja packets in sachets concealed in the doors of the car. The DSP said the accused were bringing ganja from AOB to sell the same in Kurnool city. Police recovered 20 kilo of ganja worth nearly ₹80,000 from them. The gang was planning to make small packets of ganja and sell them at ₹500 each.

The main accused, M Narendra of Panchalingala in Kurnool city, was arrested three years back in a similar offence. The other accused are N Umesh Chandra, S Mrutyunjay Reddy, Sk Mahammed Arif and P Chakali Goverdhan.

All the accused are aged below 25 years, Mr. Babu Prasad said adding they will probe to ascertain the source of the ganja and the persons who are buying ganja from the gang.
