The end is finally here for creator Julian Fellowes’s popular period drama “Downton Abbey,” which wrapped up its 15-year run in September with “The Grand Finale.” The film, streaming Friday on Peacock, is (at least for now) the last chapter in the Crawley family’s story, with stars Hugh Bonneville, Jim Carter, Michelle Dockery, and more reprising their roles for the franchise’s big goodbye. The Globe’s Meredith Goldstein praised the film in her 3½-star review, writing, “There’s nostalgia, not only for an era, but for much-loved characters.” Available on Peacock It’s been a rough ride for Marvel’s first family when it comes to big-screen adaptations over the years, but the superhero quartet seems to have finally hit its stride with “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” Now streaming on Disney+, the latest “Fantastic” flick sees Pedro Pascal taking over as the extremely stretchy genius Reed Richards, as he and his super-powered pals look to protect their Earth (which exists parallel to Marvel’s main cinematic universe) from the planet-devouring Galactus (Ralph Ineson). Available on Disney+ Halloween may be over, but there are still scares to be had with Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein,” streaming Friday on Netflix. The latest adaptation of the Mary Shelley classic features Oscar Isaac as Dr. Victor Frankenstein, while Jacob Elordi impresses with his take on the Creature. “This is a horror movie, but it’s also a heartbreaking tale of forced existence and the subsequent quest for answers,” Globe film critic Odie Henderson wrote in his 4-star review. Available on Netflix The World Series is over, but if you’re still itching for some baseball fun, HBO Max has a new docuseries to check out centered on former Yankees star Alex Rodriguez. In “Alex vs. A-Rod,” the one-time Red Sox nemesis reflects on the highs and lows of his career (including his suspension over performance-enhancing drug use). The first episode is out now, with part two releasing on Nov. 13, and part three debuting on Nov. 20. Available on HBO Max NBC’s hit mockumentary comedy “St. Denis Medical” returned for its second season earlier this week. The show follows doctors and nurses as they navigate taking care of their patients in the midst of workplace headaches, putting a hospital spin on “The Office”-style hijinks. The always hilarious David Alan Grier is a scene-stealer as the curmudgeonly Dr. Ron. Available on Peacock Bay State native Chris Evans stars as a handsome but broke actor who tries to win back the heart of his ex (Dakota Johnson) in “Materialists,” streaming Friday on HBO Max. Complicating things for Evans’s character is fellow Marvel star Pedro Pascal, who plays a debonair and wealthy suitor also trying to woo their shared love interest, who happens to be a matchmaker. “Materialists” is the sophomore outing for Oscar-nominated “Past Lives” director-writer Celine Song. Available on HBO Max Matt Juul is the assistant digital editor for the Living Arts team at the Boston Globe, with over a decade of experience covering arts and entertainment.
