The government has approved the first seven proposals under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme, including projects focused on printed circuit board (PCB) production, Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Monday.Briefing the media, Vaishnaw said the approvals mark a major step in strengthening India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem and reducing import dependence for critical components.“The components which will be manufactured are PCBs,” he said. “Such PCBs are used in almost all electronic equipment, whether it is laptops, servers, industrial equipment, train set, rocket or aeroplanes. Then there are high-density PCBs with multi-layers... Each of the layers is interconnected.”He outlined that the second component to be manufactured under the scheme is copper laminates — high-purity materials essential for electronic production. “Third is the camera module... Fourth is a thin film inside a capacitor. These will be manufactured in our country,” Vaishnaw said.Live EventsExplaining the expected outcomes, he noted that in the case of multi-layered PCBs, about 20% of India’s domestic demand will be met by the approved plants.
