Syracuse, N.Y. - A fire badly damaged a two-story building in Eastwood on Monday afternoon, according to Syracuse firefighters. The two-story building at 372 S. Midler Ave. suffered severe fire damage on the first floor and significant damage to the second floor, according to Capt. Erik Caster, a spokesperson for the Syracuse Fire Department. The building contains two businesses and an apartment on the first floor, as well as two apartments on the second floor, Caster said. Outside the building has signs for Goblin’s Den Tattoo and Family Traditions, a tattoo and piercing business. The fire was called in by Syracuse police making an arrest. Firefighters responded at 1:33 p.m. Firefighters believe the fire started in the apartment on the first floor, Caster said. No one was hurt in the fire. The fire was put out in 10 minutes, he said. Caleb Slater, who lives next door, said he saw smoke pouring out the front door and saw police detain a woman. The police were making an arrest at the same apartment where it is believed that the fire started, said Kieran Coffey, a spokesperson for the Syracuse Police Department. The tenant called to complain of a woman who was causing issues in the home, he said. The woman was charged with misdemeanor harassment and criminal mischief, Coffey said. Neither of the charges are for the fire, he said. Caster said the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
