Fire breaks out at family home in early hours after 'electrical appliance fault'

A fire at a family home in Manchester in the early hours of the morning may have been caused by an 'electrical appliance fault'. Fire crews were called to the semi-detached property in Chorlton shortly after 4.30am on Tuesday morning (November 4). The fire, which broke out in the utility room of the property in St Brannocks Road, was eventually extinguished as dawn broke. Crews were in attendance for around three hours with images from the scene suggesting that investigations continued later. One eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News that a family with two children were in the property at the time. The witness, who asked to remain anonymous, said that the road was closed as fire crews battled the blaze 'all night'. According to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS), a fault on an electrical appliance may have caused the fire. A GMFRS spokesperson said: “At shortly after 4.30am on Tuesday (November 4) three fire engines from Moss Side , Withington and Stretford fire stations were called to a fire in the utility room of a semi-detached house on St Brannocks Road, Chorlton . “The suspected cause of the fire was a fault on an electrical appliance. Firefighters used two hose reels to extinguish the fire and make the area safe. Crews were in attendance for around three hours.” --- Day in day out, our reporters in the Manchester Evening News newsroom bring you remarkable stories from all aspects of Mancunian life.
