A large fire that broke out in an outdoor space of a business in the township of Acharnes (also known as ‘Menidi’), southeast Athens, has brought additional firefighters to the site.
The Fire Department said the fire broke out around 17:15 at a business yard with wood and wooden pallets. A total of 44 firefighters with 20 fire engines and 3 helicopters are trying to put it out.
In addition, a message was sent out to the emergency 112 number, asking residents of the nearby area to remain indoors with shut doors and windows due to thick smoke.
Meanwhile, traffic police has stopped traffic on Tatoiou Street in Menidi, from the junction wtih Kymis Street to that of Dekelias Street.
