The Finns Party is planning to prohibit its MPs from hiring their own family members or close relatives as parliamentary assistants. In a press release, the party's secretary, Harri Vuorenpää, confirmed that the new rule would be added to candidate agreements for the next parliamentary elections, which are scheduled in April 2027. "The matter has been planned for some time, but now that the elections are approaching, we are also starting to prepare for this matter," Vuorenpää said in the release. The ban will go into effect after the elections, according to the party. "Clear rules make it easier for everyone. That's why candidate agreements also include commitments to other issues that the party considers important, as well as, for example, the party's values," Vuorenpää said. The hiring of family members and close friends sparked debate on Tuesday, after newspaper Iltalehti reported that the Minister of Social Affairs and Health, Kaisa Juuso, who belongs to the Finns Party, had hired her son Ville Rajainmäki as her parliamentary assistant. It is customary for MPs to select their own assistants.
