Finnish President to visit Uzbekistan - Qalampir.uz

On September 9, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, the presidential press service reported.

The two leaders discussed prospects for expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and Finland, with a focus on trade, economic and humanitarian spheres, in preparation for the upcoming visit of the Finnish president to Uzbekistan.

According to the press service, constructive political dialogue and interparliamentary exchanges continue to develop. In 2024, trade turnover between the two countries grew by 24 percent. Since 2022, the Finnish “Nordic” University has been operating in Uzbekistan, while projects to improve school education are also being implemented.

Special attention was given to opportunities for cooperation in agriculture, chemistry, energy, mining, telecommunications and other innovative sectors, including the introduction of advanced technologies in the education system.

The parties proposed holding a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission and a business forum with the participation of leading companies from both countries to prepare concrete projects. Views were also exchanged on key international issues, with both sides emphasizing the importance of resolving disputes peacefully and in line with international law.

It is worth noting that earlier President Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. During that exchange, the leaders discussed strengthening the Uzbek-US strategic partnership and expanding cooperation. Trump expressed support for the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan to modernize the economy and improve living standards.
