‘Fingers Chopped, Wrist Slit’: Mumbai Auto Driver Murdered in Front of Son, Accused Arrested

Mumbai: An auto driver was murdered with a sharp-edged weapon this morning under the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar railway station flyover. According to initial information, two unidentified individuals in a car attacked the driver with an axe. The victim, Imran Sheikh, died on the spot, while the attackers fled after the incident. Reportedly, a car intercepted the auto in which Sheikh and his children were travelling. Around five to six men dragged them out and launched a violent assault on him in full public view. His terrified children could do nothing but watch as their father was beaten and tortured. The accused chopped off Sheikh’s fingers, slit his wrist, and struck him repeatedly on the head and neck before stabbing him multiple times. He was left bleeding under a nearby foot overbridge, where he succumbed to his injuries. Police suspect the killing was linked to an old rivalry over a gas business dispute. Within nine hours of the attack, officers arrested three suspects. The main accused, Mujeeb Don, already has several criminal cases against him. The other two arrested were his brother, Saddam Hussain Moinuddin, and his brother-in-law, Sheikh Irfan Sheikh Suleman. In a separate news, a 24-year-old man from Rajasthan was arrested for stealing silver items from a temple in Mumbai’s Mangaldas Market. The police found the stolen silver ornaments, weighing about three kilograms, and a silver ‘shivling’ worth nearly Rs 3 lakh, which the man had buried nearby. The theft happened a few days ago, reported the news agency PTI. During investigation, a Mumbai police team zeroed in on one Kapil Brijmohan Soni, a resident of Jodhpur, Rajasthan, and nabbed him from his residence in connection with the crime. The team later produced Soni before a local court and secured his transit remand, said the official.
