Finding car 'crucial' to murder investigation, police say

Police say finding a car could be a crucial "missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle" as they continue their murder investigation into the death of father-of-two Chris Robertson. The 49-year-old Moana man was found dead inside a Lonsdale workshop on O'Sullivan's Beach Road on September 30. Earlier this month, police declared his death a major crime and said Mr Roberston died as result of his injuries after being seriously assaulted. Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said police were seeking help from the public to find a grey Mitsubishi Triton utility with licence registration XTF976. The car was captured on CCTV at the workshop the day after Mr Robertson was last seen alive celebrating with friends on the AFL Grand Final weekend. "We know that he [Chris] was alive in that vehicle when it arrived," Superintendent Fielke said. "We know the person who was driving the car at the time, we just don't know where the car is. "Locating the vehicle is crucial to us in terms of getting some forensic evidence … this is the missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle that we are very, very keen to find." Superintendent Fielke said the driver of the car was known to Mr Robertson and was considered a suspect, but was assisting with the investigation. "We have a number of other persons of interest as well … we haven't ruled out that more than one person is involved in Chris's murder," he said. He said the vehicle's owner had spoken to police but was not believed to be involved in the murder. Superintendent Fielke said police had already spoken to a number of witnesses to piece together the movements of Mr Robertson in the lead-up to his death. "Some of those people have associations or links to outlaw motorcycle gangs (OMCG) but we are not actually investigating any OMCG member or club particularly." "We're following several lines of positive inquiry in relation to his investigation, and we do believe there is going to be a good resolution." Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
