The community is invited to go “all in” at Finally Family Homes’ third annual poker tournament, scheduled 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Oasis Resource Center in Newhall.
Previous winners are expected to return to defend their titles — including last year’s champion, Samuel Birdsong. Players of all skill levels are invited.
The evening will feature poker play, dinner, drinks, and a silent auction, raising funds to support young adults ages 18-26 who are navigating life after foster care, homelessness, or other major challenges.
Proceeds from the tournament directly benefit Finally Family Homes, whose Oasis Resource Center. According to a news release from the nonprofit organization, the center provides a safe, welcoming space in Santa Clarita where young adults can: access essentials like food, toiletries, and hygiene supplies; receive housing navigation and support in securing safe, stable places to live; participate in life-skills programs on budgeting, education and career preparation; find encouragement, mentorship, and a caring community that believes in them.
Since the Oasis opened a year ago, more than 80 young adults have spent nearly 500 hours in the center.
Tickets are $100 per player (includes seat at the table, dinner, and two drink tickets). Sponsorship opportunities are available.
“This tournament is more than just a fun night of cards,” Christina Dronen, executive director of Finally Family Homes, said in the release. “Every hand played helps create a brighter future for young adults right here in Santa Clarita.”
