Director Naoki Hamaguchi has revealed that some inspirations for Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth include The Last of Us and The Witcher 3. Asked by YouTuber, Josephyr, about inspirations for the two games, Hamaguchi said (via translator), “Final Fantasy 7 Remake was a very story driven game, so I’d say things that inspired me in terms of how that was done was other story driven games like God of War or The Last Of Us”. As for Rebirth, Hamaguchi pointed out that the “game is a much more open world in its design, so the kind of games that I was inspired by for that one were more open-world games, things like The Witcher 3 for example”. There’s no elaboration as to how these games influenced the Final Fantasy 7 Remake so far, but it’s interesting to hear these were inspirations for the director, although God of War, The Last of Us, and The Witcher 3 probably inspire many as they’re three of the greatest games of all time. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 News Coming ‘In the Not Too Distant Future’ Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is the next installment currently being developed, and, at MCM Comic Con London, Naoki Hamaguchi said that Square Enix hope to provide news “in the not too distant future”. It might be too early, but here’s hoping we get a reveal or at least a teaser at The Game Awards in December. We don’t know when the third installment will come out, but the director has previously said development is “going extremely well” with a “lot of the content already playable”. The director has also said they are “actively considering” DLC for the third installment, leading to hopes of possibly getting to play DLC resembling the Advent Children movie. Estimations are that Part 3 will come out in either 2027 or 2028, but Square Enix hasn’t suggested a release window as of this moment. As for remakes beyond FF7, Naoki Hamaguchi has said Final Fantasy 6 would be “very cool” to remake as it’s his “favorite mainline title”. There were rumors about a remake for Final Fantasy 9, but it may have been cancelled.
