The High Court of Karnataka on Thursday directed the Executive Director of the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) to file an affidavit by October 31 explaining the modus of allotment of seats based on which the provisional allotment of seats was published on October 24 in the third round of counselling for medical and dental courses. A Division Bench comprising Justice Jayant Banerji and Justice K.V. Aravind issued the interim order on petitions filed by Chandana M. Chavan and several other students. The petitioner students alleged that less meritorious students, based on their NEET rank were allotted seats in the provisional list announced for the third round due to the procedure and the criteria adopted for allotment of seats in the third round of counselling without declaring such procedure and criteria in the admission Information Bulletin-2025. Earlier, advocate N.K. Ramesh, appearing for the KEA, pointed out that the procedure adopted by the KEA this year was similar to that the previous year, while reiterating that the procedure of allotment of seats was notified to the candidates time to time as was done earlier. While continuing the earlier interim order of directing KEA not to finalise the provisional allotment list till further order, the Bench adjourned further hearing on the petition till October 31.
