By Peter Luzinda Ugandan rapper Shafik Walukaga, popularly known as Fik Fameica, has reaffirmed his allegiance to the National Unity Platform (NUP) led by Bobi Wine, stating that he would never perform at an event organized by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) regardless of the financial offer. In a recent interview with Galaxy TV, the “Pisto” hitmaker made it clear that his loyalty lies firmly with the People Power movement.“I belong to People Power and I cannot perform for any other political party even if I’m paid,” Fik said. This declaration follows previous backlash he received for performing at an event organized by Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU). He acknowledged the criticism, saying it served as a learning experience. Reflecting on his journey, Fik also further expressed gratitude to fellow artists Sheebah Karungi and Spice Diana for their support during tough times, including challenges around organizing his concerts. While calls to separate music from politics continue to surface, more artists are publicly aligning with political parties. As the NRM continues to draw support from artists like Bebe Cool, Eddy Kenzo, Dr. Jose Chameleone, and Alien Skin, Fik Fameica now firmly positions himself on the NUP side.
