Fiestas de San Diego return to Cuevas de Almanzora

Five days of tradition, music, and community spirit from 12-16 November. From colourful parades and late-night dancing to local gastronomy and family gatherings, Cuevas del Almanzora’s Fiestas de San Diego are set to bring the town to life once again this autumn. Excitement builds ahead of Cuevas’ November fair Cuevas del Almanzora is preparing once again to celebrate one of its most deeply rooted traditions – the Fiestas de San Diego, held this year from November 12 to November 16 2025. The town will come alive with colour, music and community spirit, honouring its patron saint, San Diego de Alcalá, whose feast day on November 13 sits at the heart of the celebration. A festival with centuries of history behind it The origins of the Fiestas de San Diego stretch back to the late 1500s, when a Franciscan community established the cult of San Diego de Alcala in the area. Over time, the devotion evolved into a popular town fair that attracted visitors, traders and farmers from across the Almanzora Valley. Centuries later, the tradition remains a proud marker of Cuevas’ cultural identity – blending religious devotion with local festivity. Five days of music, dance and local flavour Throughout the five-day programme, Cuevas will host a full calendar of religious, cultural and leisure events. The main day – Wednesday November 13 – begins with a solemn Mass in honour of San Diego, followed by a grand procession through the town’s streets. Local associations, floats, horse-drawn carriages and the town’s Misses and Mister will accompany the image of the patron saint, cheered on by residents and visitors alike. Beyond the religious acts, the town centre and fairground will become a hub of live music, traditional dance, food stalls and amusement rides. Families can enjoy daily entertainment, while bars and restaurants will offer local tapas, grilled meats and regional sweets – keeping the energy high long into the night in traditional Spanish style. More than a fair – a symbol of community For locals, the fiesta is more than a party – it’s a symbol of togetherness. It’s a chance for those who have moved away to return home, reconnect with neighbours, and pass customs to the next generation. The Ayuntamiento de Cuevas del Almanzora has already announced that preparations are well under way, with the official 2025 winning poster having been unveiled after a local up-and-coming artists competition. Whether you come for the procession, the music, or simply the atmosphere, the Fiestas promise an authentic taste of Andalucian culture – five days of shared joy and local pride in one of Almeria’s most historic towns.
