Fern Britton shares heartfelt reason for '5st weight loss' as fans react to new look

Fern Britton says her weight loss transformation isn’t just for herself, but also for her four children. The former This Morning presenter has reportedly shed an impressive five stone after overhauling her lifestyle and reconsidering her eating habits. Over the last few years, she has quit smoking, started running with the help of the Couch to 5k app, and implemented major dietary changes to boost her health and energy levels. Her original drive stemmed from a practical requirement in 2023 when she was preparing for shoulder surgery. Wanting to be in the best physical condition before going under the knife, she decided to make a positive change. A pivotal moment for Fern, she reflected: “That and being pain-free after the op has been a great gift. It’s given me such a boost. Actually, I’m very proud of myself. People are obsessed with what size you are, and this isn’t about that.” The 68-year-old continued by emphasising the significance of being as healthy as she can be, for the sake of her children. “This is about staying fit for my kids, so they don’t have to worry about me, and it’s about enjoying this stage of life,” she added to Woman’s Weekly magazine. “I don’t know what I’m doing next month or next year, so looking at the future can be a bit scary, but also very liberating.” Fern has four adult children; twins Harry and Jack, 31, and Grace, 27, from her first marriage to Clive Jones, and daughter Winnie, 23, who she shares with chef Phil Vickery. The presenter is no stranger to discussing her health and ups and downs with weight loss. In her memoir The Older I Get: How I Repowered My Life, Fern reflected on the moment she underwent gastric band surgery in 2006, when she was reportedly a size 22. While the operation initially proved effective, she confessed the subsequent years presented difficulties. “It helped me lose a lot of weight while exercising regularly and eating good, wholesome food,” she wrote. “The irony of a gastric band is that it allows wine, chocolate, cakes, anything full of sugar or fat, to slip down very easily.” This time around, she opted for a different strategy. Through embracing fitness, including regular running, and by selecting meals packed with protein and vegetables, she discovered a healthier and more sustainable approach. Fern’s transformation hasn’t gone unnoticed with fans, who have praised her looks online. While promoting her latest book, A Cornish Legacy, Fern shared a picture of herself clutching the new novel. In the comments section, one supporter penned: “Omg you’re looking amazing!”. Another commented: “Looking forward to this one, quite relevant to me atm! BTW you’re looking AMAZING.” A third typed: “You look absolutely bloomin gorgeous. Congratulations on your new book launch day.”
