Feng Shui Compass Guide: Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese practice that teaches how to bring positivity, prosperity, and peace into life through the balance of the environment and energy (Qi). Directions are of great importance in this practice. It is believed that each direction is associated with a specific element, energy, and area of life.
A Feng Shui compass is used to accurately determine these directions. As simple as this process may seem. It requires great attention and precision. Let’s understand in detail how to use a Feng Shui compass correctly.
What is a Feng Shui Compass?
There are two types of Feng Shui compasses.
Luo Pan: A compass used by traditional experts. With multiple rings and Feng Shui-related information inscribed on it. Its use is complex and requires specialized training to understand.
Simple Compass/Digital Compass/Mobile App: Easier options for general users. These only show directions and degrees, and are sufficient for beginners.
Preparation Before Measuring the Compass
Before measuring the direction with a feng shui compass. It is important to keep some important things in mind. First of all, understand that the direction of the main door in Feng Shui is of great importance. This is the place where energy enters the house. The compass measurement process starts at the main door.
Also, before measuring with a compass. Ensure that there are no large metal items, mobile towers, vehicles, or electronic devices nearby. These can affect the magnetic field and cause incorrect compass readings.
How to measure direction with a Feng Shui Compass?
Step 1: Stand at the main door
Stand outside the main door with your back to the house and facing the direction of the person entering the house.
Step 2: Keep the compass straight and stable
Keep the compass (or mobile phone) stable in front of your chest with both hands. Keep the phone screen or compass needle from moving forward and wait for the reading to stabilize.
Step 3: Note the direction and degree
Pay attention to the direction (eg, north, south, east, west) and degrees (eg, 180 °, 90 °, 225 °) displayed on the compass or mobile screen. For example, if the compass shows 180 °, it is South.
Step 4: 3 to 5 reading
To ensure accuracy, take 3 to 5 readings while standing in one place and average them.
What to do after knowing the direction?
Once you know the direction of your home’s main door. You can apply Feng Shui principles accordingly. For example:
The fire element is connected to the south direction. So Colors like red, orange, and purple are favorable here.
The water element is connected to the north direction. So blue and black are appropriate here.
You can also use a compass to measure the direction of bedrooms, kitchens, prayer rooms, etc., to determine which room faces which direction and whether it is auspicious to live there.
