Both players remained steady on serve until the very end, when the Canadian faltered while trying to force a tie-break, thus conceding the set.Auger-Aliassime rallied from a break down to level the score in the second set. He managed to take the set to a tie-break this time, and came out on top in it to force a decider. The third set also went down to the wire, with the Canadian gaining the upper hand in the tie-break to complete a 5-7, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) comeback win.Altmaier beat Marcos Giron 6-2, 7-6 (5) to reach the second round, where eighth seed Casper Ruud awaited him. The German was quick off the blocks, moving to a 3-0 lead in the first set. He didn't let his good headstart go to waste and eventually claimed the set.Altmaier was on the cusp of victory after he went up a break in the second set and stepped up to serve for the match in the 10th game. Ruud played a fantastic game to stop his rival from wrapping up the proceedings.
