Fayetteville Animal Services seeks public help with treats, fostering during November

FAYETTEVILLE -- Fayetteville Animal Services is requesting the public's help to provide special treats and place to stay for shelter animals during the month of November. From Nov. 1-22 the shelter will hose its fourth annual "Kongsgiving." The community is asked to help prepare a Thanksgiving treat for shelter dogs and cats by donating items such as canned chicken, plain canned pumpkin, pet-friendly broth and spray cheese to fill Kong pet toys for the animals, according to a city news release regarding the monthlong celebration. "These treats are a simple but meaningful way for our community to show the animals in our care that they're loved and remembered during the holidays," Animal Services Superintendent Justine Lentz said. Animal Services will also be seeking short-term fosters for dogs from Nov. 24 through Dec. 1. The dogs can be picked up beginning Nov. 24 and returned Dec. 1. The dates for short-term fostering are flexible, according to the release. Those interested in fostering can fill out an adoption application online and note in the question, "what pet/pets are you interested in," that they are interested in fostering. Those interested are encouraged to apply by Nov. 20. "Even a brief stay in a home environment provides valuable relief from the shelter setting and helps dogs learn to relax and thrive," Lentz said. Adoption fees will be waived for any short-term foster provider that chooses to adopt their foster pup, according to the release. Animal Services, located at 1640 S. Armstrong Ave., is open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
