Fatal road accidents claim lives in Kunene and Erongo regions

TWO fatal road accidents occurred this past weekend, resulting in the deaths of a pedestrian in the Kunene Region as well as a Dutch national in the Erongo Region.

One of these accidents claimed the life of a 63-year-old man, who died on Friday after being run over by two vehicles near Opuwo.

According to the police, the incident took place on the main road between Opuwo and Omakange.

“It is alleged that an unknown vehicle travelling towards Opuwo hit a pedestrian who was jaywalking on the road and drove off without stopping. It is further alleged that a second vehicle also ran over the pedestrian while he was lying on the road and likewise drove off without stopping,” the police revealed.

The deceased was identified as Tjipazombua Herikutja. He was declared dead at the scene due to the injuries he sustained. His next of kin have been informed.

Another road accident claimed the life of a 68-year-old woman near Walvis Bay on Saturday.

According to the police, the accident occurred on the C14 road in Kuiseb Canyon, approximately 156 km from Walvis Bay.

The deceased was identified as Lisette Monique De Bruijn, a Dutch national.According to the police, she had been travelling in a brown Nissan NP200, which belongs to Bucht Car Rentals and Tours. She was one of nine occupants.

The police reported that the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn.

De Bruijn died at the scene, while the other occupants sustained moderate to serious injuries. They were transported to Welwitschia Private Hospital in Walvis Bay for treatment. The deceased’s next of kin have been informed.
