Farmers body moots DPC-level committees to check malpractices in procurement

The Tamizhaga Cauvery Vivasayigal Sangam has urged authorities to ensure malpractice-free procurement of paddy during the current ‘rabi’ season.

In a memorandum submitted to Collector V. Mohanachandran on Wednesday, association general secretary P. R. Pandian suggested formation of a direct purchase centre-level committee comprising local farmers, village administrative officer and assistant agriculture official to ensure malpractice-free procurement.

Installation of closed circuit television cameras, day-to-day movement of procured paddy to the open storage points set up on a high-level area, opening of DPCs well before the commencement of the harvest, procurement of paddy with a higher moisture content of up to 22%, ensuring availability of paddy dryers at DPCs, movement of paddy from storage points to rice mills and inspection/cross-verification of chitta produced for measuring paddy at DPCs were the other suggestion made by the Sangam for error-free and effective procurement of paddy during the ‘rabi’ season.
