Family-run Papo’s Bagels in UK tops Deliveroo charts – I tried it and loved it

Deliveroo has revealed the world's most ordered food item in the world - and it's a bagel from an East London family run shop. Papo's Bagels in Dalston took the top spot - and it shows we're going back to basics when it comes to comfort food. Papo's Plain Classic Bagel is simply just cream cheese, smoked salmon, red onion, a slice of tomato and capers which was created by husband and wife duo Georgia Fewick-Gomez and Gabe 'Papo' Gomez, and it's impressively beat restaurant giants and huge international chains to become the the top-trending dish. Papo's started as a lockdown venture, which has now put itself on the map thanks to their stuffed bagels that look like something straight out of a New York deli - and I couldn't wait to get my hands on one. With people queuing out the door in the East London alley, I wanted to see why it was so popular. I opted for the classic plain and the everything plain bagels - the only difference was the everything bagel has an onion, garlic, sea salt, sesame, poppy seeds seasoning on top. When it arrived I couldn't believe how big it was. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it was definitely stuffed to the brim with salmon and creem cheese oozing out. The everything bagel had a really ncie taste to it, with hints of onion from the seasoning and it had a very nice crunch on the first bite. The salmon was rich, but not too overpowering and the cream cheese was generously layered on which I enjoyed. The red onion and capers were a nice touch to add to the huge flavours already going on - another great addition, however I couldn't really taste much of the tomato. I can definitely see why these bagels are so popular, they are hearty and will definitely fill you up. It costs £10.50 which arguably is quite steep for just one bagel, but they definitely haven't scrimped on the filling. I would definitely buy again - I'd just prepare myself with some napkins next time. Papo's Bagels said: 'Winning Deliveroo's top-trending dish of the year is honestly a crazy honour. We had a simple desire to bring a taste of home - New York City - to London, and The Classic is a classic for a reason. Thank you!' Deliveroo said the firm's success "highlights how authentic, locally-run establishments can capture the appetite and love of a nation for new and trending dishes".
