Family mourns ‘unexpected’ death of TikTok star at 19

Emman Atienza, an influencer best known for her lifestyle videos on TikTok, has died at 19 years old. The social media star died at her home in Los Angeles Wednesday, Oct. 22, according to TMZ. Her cause of death was listed as suicide, the outlet reported citing the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. Atienza‘s parents, Filipino television host Kuya Kim and fitness guru Felicia, announced their daughter’s death in an Instagram post on Thursday, Oct. 23. “It’s with deep sadness that we share the unexpected passing of our daughter and sister, Emman. She brought so much joy, laughter, and love into our lives and into the lives of everyone who knew her,” the family wrote. “Emman had a way of making people feel seen and heard, and she wasn’t afraid to share her own journey with mental health. Her authenticity helped so many feel less alone,” they continued. “To honor Emman’s memory, we hope you carry forward the qualities she lived by: compassion, courage, and a little extra kindness in your everyday life.” Atienza’s sister, Eliana, also posted a tribute to the late TikTok star on Sunday, Oct. 26. “I miss you, Emman, with everything that I am and will ever be,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “I see you in the sunlight between the tree canopy and in the endless stars I know must be there, hidden by city lights. We were supposed to co-create a better world where our children could play together, and we could laugh knowing we fought and struggled to build this for them. I hope this message reaches you wherever you are. Call me soon, okay?” Atienza had built a significant social media following with 875,000 followers on TikTok and 225,000 on Instagram, the New York Post reported. Beyond sharing lifestyle content, she used her platform to discuss mental health issues and speak out against conservative values in the Philippines. The young content creator had recently relocated to Los Angeles and had been documenting her new life with followers. Her final TikTok video, posted shortly before her death, featured a montage of activities with friends, including hiking, rock climbing, and Halloween festivities. In November 2024, Atienza briefly stepped away from social media following backlash over a video showing her and friends playing a “guess the bill” game at a restaurant where the check totaled $2,268, the NY Post noted. The post sparked criticism in the Philippines, where the average monthly wage is approximately $794.
