BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that his remark regarding cases against Awami League -- made during a speech in Thakurgaon earlier today -- was circulated incorrectly in the media. He issued a written clarification on Tuesday evening. "Media incorrectly circulated my speech delivered at a views-exchange meeting at Mohammadpur Shapla Government Primary School premises under Thakurgaon Sadar upazila this afternoon," the statement read. Fakhrul explained, "In my speech, I said we do not want to engage in politics driven by vengeance. We will not file harassment cases the way Awami League did." He added, "I also said that we will withdraw any harassment cases, if there are any, in this union." However, Fakhrul stressed that he did not make any statement about filing or withdrawing harassment cases across the country. "I urge the countrymen as well as the leaders and activists at all levels in our party not to be confused by the incorrect coverage of my speech in the media," the statement said.
