Fake temple website found for booking rooms

The Kollur Mookambika Temple administration has filed a complaint on a fake website being used to book rooms in the temple’s Lalitambika Guest House. In the complaint, the Temple’s Executive Officer Prashanth Kumar Shetty said that as against the original website http://karnatakatemplesaccomodation.com, a fake website called ‘Karnataka temple accommodation’, has been created. This fake website was being used to reserve six rooms in the Lalitambika Guest House. The fraudster had sent a PhonePe QR code through WhatsApp, via which people paid the advance amount. Fraudsters issued a fake receipt for the payment. Temple administrators got to know about the fraud when six persons came to the Guest House a few days ago with fake receipts showing room and seva (service) bookings. Mr. Shetty said this website has similarly booked rooms in Endowment Department-operated Guest Houses in Tirupati and other parts of the State. Mr. Shetty asked the police to trace the fraudster. The police registered the complaint on November 3 for offences under Section 66 (C) of the Information Technology Act and Section 318 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. They are trying to trace the bank accounts and mobile numbers used by fraudsters.
