On Tuesday, Fairfield police deployed new tech, a drone, to nab a wanted felon, Dishon Vales, 42, after he attempted to give officers the slip. The incident, according to a social media post from the Fairfield, CA Police Department, began with reports of a disturbance at a business on Business Center Drive. Described by the caller and fleeing towards Highway 80 north of Green Valley Road, Officer Swoyer took to the skies with his drone to locate the suspect. Two individuals were spotted by the drone kneeling along the creek near an overpass. Even though one man saw the drone and bolted, the officer held steady, choosing not to chase the decoy. This move led to the successful deployment of a perimeter by other units on the ground, as detailed by the Fairfield Police Department's Facebook post. Having not been led astray, Officer Swoyer used the drone to re-establish a visual on the fleeing associate and ruled him out as the suspect. As he redirected the drone's spotlight back to the overpass, it was there that Vales was caught, trying to escape on a bicycle after changing his clothes. The suspect, already wanted for assault with a deadly weapon and for violating parole, was taken into custody without incident and brought to the County Jail.
