Face of 15-Year-Old Dog With ‘No Idea’ Why She’s in Shelter Breaks Hearts

A video of a senior dog confused after being abandoned at an animal shelter in England broke hearts, as the canine starts the search for a new family. Jenny Eden, manager at the Brighton and the Heart of Sussex RSPCA branch, told Newsweek via email that the 15-year-old dog, Daisy, was abandoned in a property. The RSCPA inspector found her after receiving a report from a concerned citizen. But as soon as she came into the animal shelter, Daisy started looking around with "no idea" why she ended up there. The RSPCA shared Daisy's story in an October 28 TikTok video (@rspcabrighton), which reached over 22,500 views and more than 3,300 likes as of Wednesday. The senior dog stood frozen in the kennel, taking in her new environment as her life turned upside down. When Daisy spotted the person filming, she went up to the front and began wiggling her body, desperate for comfort. The shelter is learning about Daisy's personality, hoping to connect her with the perfect family to live out her golden years. After an exam, the team discovered Daisy is deaf and has been diagnosed with glaucoma, a disease in which the pressure within the eye is increased. Eden said that Daisy is "the sweetest dog who just wants fuss and love," and, despite her age, she enjoys running and playing. "Her idea of heaven is a sofa and someone to snuggle up to," Eden added. The team is waiting for the right home to come forward to give Daisy a "happy retirement." The rescuers know her age might be off-putting to some adopters due to insurance costs, which is why they would like someone to foster Daisy. Those interested in Daisy should contact the Brighton and the Heart of Sussex RSPCA branch for more information. Viewer Reactions Daisy's story broke people's hearts, as her age already makes it harder for her to get adopted. Senior dogs, considered 7 years and older for large canines and 11 for smaller ones, are commonly overlooked by adopters. An article from PetMD reported that only 25 percent of senior dogs get adopted, compared to the 60 percent of younger canines and puppies. "This is so sad. Why is she here at this age?" asked a viewer. A second person commented: "The poor girl must feel so lost at her age. She should be living in comfort with love. Breaks my heart the abuse these beautiful furbabies go through." Other TikTok users are remaining positive for this senior sweetheart: "Oh, Daisy! Bless her little heart. I hope she finds her home soon to live out her golden years."
