Lewis Hamilton has confirmed the heartbreaking news that his cherished dog, Roscoe, has passed away. The seven-time Formula 1 world champion had been at his faithful companion’s side since Wednesday, when he rushed the bulldog to a veterinary clinic following a “scary few hours” during which his condition declined rapidly. However, circumstances deteriorated further on Friday when Hamilton revealed his dog had slipped into a coma, expressing his fears that they might not be able to rouse him once more. Hamilton has now shared the devastating news that Roscoe, thought to be approximately 13 years old, has died. In a heartfelt message shared on social media on Monday, he wrote: “After four days on life support, fighting with every bit of strength he had, I had to make the hardest decision of my life and say goodbye to Roscoe.”, reports the Express . “He never stopped fighting, right until the very end. I feel so grateful and honoured to have shared my life with such a beautiful soul, an angel and true friend. Bringing Roscoe into my life was the best decision I ever made, and I will forever cherish the memories we created together. Although I lost Coco, I have never been faced with putting a dog to sleep before, though I know my mum and many close friends have. “It is one of the most painful experiences and I feel a deep connection to everyone who has gone through the loss of a beloved pet. Although it was so hard, having him was one of the most beautiful parts of life, to love so deeply and to be loved in return. Thank you all for the love and support you’ve shown Roscoe over the years. It has been so special to witness and feel. He died on Sunday evening, 28th September in my arms.” Hamilton welcomed Roscoe into his life back in 2013, with his cherished bulldog accompanying him to numerous F1 races at Silverstone and across Europe throughout the years. This included a memorable journey to Istanbul where the British driver secured his seventh championship title, equalling Michael Schumacher’s record at the summit of the all-time standings. Roscoe’s final public outing occurred at the British Grand Prix in July this year, where he joined Hamilton on stage at a fan event for the first time since the driver’s move to Ferrari. This came after the resilient canine had successfully recovered from another episode of pneumonia earlier in the year. Hamilton mentioned in May that he was hopeful of bringing Roscoe along to the Italian Grand Prix, to commemorate his inaugural Monza race as a Ferrari driver. Nevertheless, his four-legged companion was notably absent from the paddock at the team’s home race. Roscoe, Hamilton’s dog, had a significant following of his own due to the global popularity of his owner. The pooch boasted an impressive 1.3 million followers on his personal Instagram page, many of whom were quick to express their condolences after the heartbreaking news of Roscoe’s passing was announced. Hamilton was scheduled to travel to Italy on Friday for a Pirelli tyre test at the Mugello circuit. However, he chose to stay with Roscoe during his final moments and was replaced by reserve driver Zhou Guanyu, who shared the car with Charles Leclerc.
