A large explosion was reported in a crowded neighborhood of New Delhi during the evening rush hour on Monday, with local news outlets suggesting there were a number of casualties. The blast occurred close to a metro station near the historic Red Fort area, which is often crowded as it leads to the large bazaars of the old city. Local news media showed images of flames and damaged vehicles. Asian News International, a media outlet close to the Indian government, cited health officials as saying there were dead and wounded after the blast. Security officials did not immediately comment on what caused the explosion or any potential casualties.
